Improving Senior Management
“The money we saved by outsourcing has
enabled us to hire an assistant for fund development.”
-- Linda Doman,
Executive Director, Vintage
When the Controller at
Vintage, a senior care and adult day care center with locations in Pittsburgh’s
East Liberty neighborhood and Downtown, resigned to take another job, Linda
Doman, Executive Director, “took a step back” to determine if she could better
utilize her staff to focus exclusively on programming, fundraising and other
responsibilities that affect the organization’s daily operations. After much
reflection, she concluded that outsourcing the day-to-day accounting functions
made the most sense.
“Although losing a
controller can pose short-term difficulties, I saw it as an opportunity to
re-configure our organizational structure and give my staff and me the freedom
to focus on Vintage’s mission 100 percent of the time. Today, our Assistant
Executive Director's management of our programs is enhanced by the reports and
support from our accounting service. The money we saved by outsourcing has
enabled us to hire an assistant for fund development.”
The transition from
managing an internal accounting function to being the client of a professional
accounting services provider has reinvigorated Doman and her management team.
“Knowing that my staff and
I can concentrate our energies on the things that drew us to the field of social
services improves our overall effectiveness.”
